The Brief Nonsense - 001
Quantum computing goes atomic, Twitter without Jack, antitrust issues, gig economy, and DeFi hacks.
Good morning👋
Since it's been a while you last received an email from me, I've decided to try a condensed picking of news I think you might find useful. I hope you like it.Â
Tech
Alex Keesling, CEO of QuEra announced that the company has developed the world's most advanced quantum computer, beating IBM and Google. But in China, the government continues its crackdown on its biggest tech companies, the latest being a fine against Tencent, Alibaba and Baidu for antitrust violations. The UK also seems to have caught this "Chinese fever" as Meta was ordered to sell one of its newest acquisitions because of antitrust issues.Â
Trending
Another gun-related incident has happened in the United States. This time, three students were killed and eight people injured at Michigan High School by a 15 year old. On twitter, Jack Dorsey steps down as Twitter CEO, Indian-born Parag Agrawal is the new CEO. Check all the reactions on social media.
Gig EconomyÂ
Despite the rise of remote working, experts say workplace harassment is still a big issue and now takes place remotely. If you're a freelancer or looking for remote work, you may find this useful but don't forget to follow these tips as well.
Crypto
MonoX confirms $31m stolen from the DeFi platform. This comes in the wake of a string of DeFi hacks that have also affected polygon (MATIC) to the tune of $10.5m. David Marcus, head of Meta's crypto unit, Novi, is stepping down later this year; to be replaced by former Upwork CEO Stephane Kasriel. Here are some cryptos to watch, and of course, NFTs we love.Â
I write about emerging technologies, startups, and share insights about the biggest tech news. You can connect with me on LinkedIn, Twitter or shoot me an email. New posts are available every weekend.
Is it just me or is the shock of ludicrous gun-incident news (like the one here) becoming less and less as time goes on?
